Get Safe Security System Review 2017

If you think that all home security companies are the same, you are wrong. While most fall into a predictable model, once in a while you find a company that fits what you were looking for. GetSafe could very well be that company.

With so many hone security providers it’s kind of a unknown when it comes to equipment. But with GetSafe you don’t need to wonder. They will provide you with high-end devices that are comparable to companies like Apple and Sonos.

You will need to install your GetSafe system, but it is very easy to do.

One thing that you won’t find with GetSafe is the traditional wall mounted control panel. You don’t need it, and honestly, with how much a smartphone can do, no one really needs it. You can use the app to manage all of your devices. The system is also compatible with Nest devices so you can control the temperature in your house using the GetSafe if you have a Nest thermostat.

If smartphones aren’t your thing, you can use the key-fob, it works just like the one you use with your car.

GetSafe Packages

There are two primary plans with GetSmart. The first is the no contract option, and the second is the annual contract option. Once you select the contract option you want, next you will need to choose if you want GetSafe’s professional monitoring service, or if you would rather monitor your system on your own.

These are the current package offered by GetSafe:

Enter table

1

DIY Made Easy

Not all DIY home security systems are created equal. Some come with page after page of complicated in instructions and so many cords that you end up frustrated and confused. This is why we love the GetSafe starter kit. It is the easiest system I have ever set up, and as I say every time, I am horrible at installing things.

It is also easy to uninstall, so if you need to move, you can just pack it up and reinstall it at the new location. It also great if you are renting, because it moves with you.

2

Equipment

If you are expecting a sad box full of out-dated white plastic devices that predate the dinosaur, you won’t find them here. What you get from GetSafe is actually quite clever. It doesn’t let on that it is a security system. It just looks like your other modern electronic devices, so it won’t stick out like a sore thumb.

You will get a basic system that includes a smart hub, motion detector, entry sensor and a siren. You can choose to add additional equipment based on what you need.

3

One Hell of an App

You do everything on the GetSafe app. And even if you have never seen a smartphone or tablet, you can use this app. It lets you arm and disarm your system, check the battery life of your devices, set rules, add and manage other users and view video.

If you think you need a wall panel you need to hop off that brontosaurus and just try the app. It will make managing your home security system so easy. And it doesn’t need wires or screws. Wall panels are nice, but smartphone apps are nicer.

4

No Contract

Two of our favorite words are no and contract. While you can opt into a contract with GetSafe, you can also choose to not have a contract. While you do pay upfront for the equipment, you also own it. So you want to try another provider (make sure that the equipment is compatible and that they will let you use it) you can. It’s your stuff.

If you do choose to sign an annual agreement, you can get your basic equipment $0. You do have to make a one year commitment, which is not too bad. But you have no messy cancellations fees, and it’s amicable, they won’t keep calling you every morning at 4am to remind you that they were the best home security company that you ever had.

5

Monitoring Service

GetSafe as a UL-certified professional monitoring service that is there for you 24/7. You will pay $35 per month, but you also get AT&T cellular back-up, which means if the power is out, your system can still connected to the monitoring service. So you are never without professional support.

In Conclusion

Keeping your home safe is something we all need to do. GetSafe just makes it a little easy and a lot cooler. While you do have to pay for the equipment, you aren’t tied down with a contract. And it is so easy to install. And easy to move.  So if you want some cool home security devices and professional monitoring service, GetSafe is a safe bet.

PROS:
  • You have no contract and no cancellation fee
  • Easy do it yourself installation
  • You can manage everything, even your Nest thermostat using the app
  • GetSafe offer wireless cameras with free cloud storage.
  • Professional monitoring at a UL-certified center
  • Great customer support
CONS:
  • Month to month requires you to buy the equipment.
  • You need to keep batteries around if the camera is on all day and night.

AT&T Digital Life vs Comcast vs Cox: Which one has the best home security?

Social media and live streaming services are changing the way we watch everything. Why pay for cable when you can get what you need for $7.99 a month.

While we stream movies on laptops, tablets, and smartphones, and use services like Amazon, Netflix, and Hulu to binge watch entire seasons of our favorite shows, traditional cable providers are losing market share.

What is a lonely cable company to do?

Why add a home security feature of course. Now you may be thinking “what does a cable company know about home security?” and I am kind of with you on that. But before you write them off, there are some things that make home security services a viable option for companies looking to boost revenue.

Here are a few reasons why cable companies are adding home security services:

  • They need the money; competition is stiff these days and with new cheaper options that seem to pop up daily, cable providers need to grow their revenue stream
  • Home security is a very, very lucrative industry, with over 33 billion spent on home security services annually, it makes it very attractive for any company that has a large customer base
  • The majority of customers get their internet through their cable or satellite provider, so who is better positioned to offer wireless home security devices than your current wireless provider
  • Home security systems used to be an expensive endeavor for most people, which made them a hard sell as part of a cable bundle, but more competition has not only brought new products to the market, it has also made home security less expensive and bundle friendly
  • Studies show that people who invest in a home security service will stay for years, which is another bonus for cable companies, whose customers can be transient

AT&T, Cox and Comcast are a few of the higher tier providers that have added or are in the process of adding new home security and home automation services. Here is what we know and what we think about each one.

Cox Communications HomeLife

Cox HomelifeCox Homelife is the first one on the list, while no cable company seems to be overwhelmed by positive reviews and ecstatic customers, some are less popular than others.

But let’s face it when it comes to hated companies, cable providers always seem to rise to the top of the list.

By launching Cox Homelife they are hoping to earn your favor. But before they get started they need you to pay the installation fees, there are two fees you will need to pay to get your Homelife system going.

The first fee is the $49.99 for installation and the second is the $50 activation fee. So, while most companies have a $99.99 installation fee, and no activation fee, Cox charges you the same amount but they split it between installation and activation.

You will also be asked to take a credit check, so you may want to check your credit before you complete your application. Most companies will do this, so just be prepared its standard, so if you aren’t sure about having an inquiry on your credit report you may need to look for another option.

But before you swipe left when it comes to services, Cox does provide competitive offers and decent services. If you are an existing Cox customer you will receive better offers than the ones provided to non-Cox customers, but once you become a customer you can start receiving the same offers.

Cox offers two packages for their home security service, the Essential Package, and the Preferred Package. You can also add additional equipment like glass-break sensors and a wireless keypad that you can manage from outside of the house, you will pay for the additional equipment but if you want to add devices, it’s easy to do.

One area of concern is the customer service provided by Cox, they are consistently rated at the bottom when it comes to how they take care of their customers. Reports of rudeness and endless transfers can be found on almost every customer review page.

They are also known for changing fees without notice, so if you do choose Cox Homelife you need to make sure that everything you agree to is sent to you in writing before you sign up.

PROS:
  • Free home security starter package
  • Professional installation services
  • Access to additional equipment that you can buy
  • Can be managed online or using smartphone apps
CONS:
  • $49.99 installation fee and $50 activation fee
  • You are required to use Cox Internet service
  • Customer service is rated as poor by current customers
  • You have to rent their touchscreen command center and return it after you contract ends
  • Fees can change without warning

AT&T Digital Life

AT&T Digital LifeNot to be left out of the home security and automation market, that seems to be growing quickly among phone and cable companies. AT&T Digital Life is bringing both smart home automation and home security together in one package, well in three packages if we are being exact.

While AT&T Digital life has arguably more potential than some it’s competitors, it still needs to make a few improvements.

What it does better than others can be found in the equipment provided and the lifetime warranty that comes with it. It is a refreshing thing to see a warranty that makes the same commitment that you do to your spouse, let’s hope they both work out.

When it comes to equipment there is quite a bit to choose from. There are three core packages, Smart Security, Smart Security and Automation and Premium Security and Automation. Each one adds additional features up until you reach the premium level.

These are the current packages and what they offer.

Packages Smart Security Smart Security and Automation Premium Security and Automation
24/7 Professional Monitoring
Professional Installation
Rapid Alarm Response Time
Remote access using app
Text and Email Alerts
Wireless Communication
Works with other high-speed internet providers
View Live or Recorded Video
Unlock Your Door Remotely
Control Temperature and Small Appliances
Water leak and temperature detection sensors

One of my favorite things about Digital Life is that when it arrived I didn’t have that cringe-worthy moment when you open the box and everything looks like inexpensive white plastic.

While each package comes with a set amount of devices, you can add additional devices like flood sensors, smart door locks, smart outlets and cameras that can allow you to create a more robust home security system.

AT&T is designed to work with every home, which is one of the primary advantages that Digital Life holds over more simple DIY providers like SimpliSafe or Scout.

Now I am not dissing DIY home security options, so before you start commenting that I am anti-DIY, I am not. I love how DIY companies make home security available to all. But when you aren’t a start-up and you are backed by name recognition and tons of money, there are some clear advantages.

While being able to easily upgrade and add new equipment is a great benefit, it is not the only benefit you get with AT&T Digital Life. You also get a professional monitoring center that is there for you 24/7.

This may not seem like that big of a deal, as it is a common feature, even among some of the DIY systems like Scout and Simplisafe. But it is a nice feature to have, and if you have a DIY setup that just sends you a push notification to tell you that you should call the fire department, you will appreciate the added benefit of a 24/7 manned monitoring center.

PROS:
  • You have three packages to choose from
  • Digital Life comes with 24/7 professional monitoring services
  • You can manage your system using their wireless touchscreen command center
  • Existing customer can get home security as part of a bundle
  • You can upgrade to add additional equipment like cameras, remotes, motion detectors and CO sensors
CONS:
  • You have to use Time Warner internet to add their home security services.
  • Canceling your contract can be challenging, but they are only 18 months in length

Comcast Xfinity Home Security

Comcast Xfinity Home SecurityComcast is the only cable provider in the small town where my mom lives.  And to say she loves them would be a lie that would most likely get me grounded.

But I am willing to give Comcast the benefit of the doubt when it comes to Xfinity home. While it seems like most customers have a love/hate relationship with them, I can give them a fair shake, as I have never used them.

I had my mom update her services (I paid the difference) so I could see the process from order to fulfillment to function. I didn’t know anyone with AT&T or Cox, and while I have Spectrum which now owns both Time Warner and Brighthouse (my provider) Brighthouse doesn’t offer home security services.

So the one I know the best is Comcast. Ordering wasn’t as easy as I thought. The person I spoke with didn’t seem that educated about the products, and the prices weren’t as she described, they were a bit higher than the original quote.

My mom complains a lot about her internet. It goes in and out. So that was my first concern when it came to Xfinity home security. But luckily they seem to recognize the issue because they have a cellular back-up for all of their Xfinity Home plans.

Unlike its two challengers, you don’t have to use Comcast’s Xfinity high-speed internet, you are free to use your own provider. You can also bundle your home security with your television, and the internet and get a pretty good discount.

The current offer from Comcast is called “Home Secure”, Home Secure is the same as a product called 300 which was an older service that had a 300 and 350 package offering. While 300 had a set price, Home Secure states that this plan is a starting point.

XH Secure X1 Starter Secure Triple Play X1 Preferred Secure Triple Play
Touch Screen Controller
Door/Window Sensors
Motion Sensors
Wireless Keypad
WiFi
Television Service

We bundled Home Secure into my mom’s existing service which increased her bill by $39.95. Installation day came and it was annoying. I lost confidence in the tech after hour two. My mom had their internet and cable, but installing Home Secure ate up most of the day. I would have asked for a refund, but while he took forever the tech was very nice.

Once installed I was surprised by how well the equipment worked, we received a touchscreen controller, three door and window sensors, a wireless keypad and a motion sensor. Because I am paying this part of my mom’s bill, I didn’t add anything additional.

If you start with the basic package, you can add on additional equipment as you can afford to, which is a nice option for people just getting started.

If you don’t want to pay for the additional equipment, and you have existing security devices that may be compatible with Home Secure you can use them. I had purchased a camera for my mom last year and the tech (he really was nice) set it up for us and connected it to the touchscreen command center.

One month in and we have had three outages, one was significant and lasted for a few hours, the other two were pretty short. My mom is keeping a log for future reference. She seems to like it, and she is a master at the touchscreen. She actually read the entire Apple pamphlet that came with her phone, so she is a pretty tech savvy senior.

The equipment has worked well, and when we intentionally tripped the door sensor, the monitoring center called her immediately. Which was nice.

PROS:
  • You can bundle all of your services together
  • They have a 5-diamond rated monitoring center
  • You can manage your system using their wireless touchscreen command center
  • Existing customer can get home security as part of a bundle
CONS:
  • You have to use Comcast internet to add their home security services.
  • Canceling your contract can be challenging

Why we like AT&T Digital Life

AT&T Digital Life Home SecuritySmart home security has become one of the fastest growing industries around. So it is only reasonable that the giants of tech are taking notice and including home automation and home security options to their customers.

What we like about AT&T Digital Life is first and foremost the technology. Nothing is worse than ordering your home security devices, to only get a box of outdated basic looking sensors and alarms. AT&T is invested in putting together packages that allow you to start small with some pretty decent equipment that can get you up and running quickly.

They also install your new home automation and security gear for no additional charge. So not only are you going to get some solid gear you will also have that gear installed by a professional. Which means less work for you. Which is always nice.

Another reason that we like Digital Life is how easily you can upgrade your packages. It is really a program that grows with you. They also allow you to upgrade without a fee, which makes it easier when you want to add a few new devices to your current setup.

You can also purchase additional equipment that you can add without upgrading. You can buy a la carte equipment like glass break sensors, CO (carbon dioxide) sensors and even thermostats and cameras. So if you like the package you are in, but you want to add an outdoor camera, it’s easy to do.

AT&T Digital Life has a reasonable two-year agreement, so you aren’t tied into a five or six-year commitment. There may be fees for early termination, you will be made aware of any additional fees at the time you are placing your order.

You can also purchase packages to compliment your current agreement. These include Video Camera, Door, Energy and Water Detection packages. Digital Life is built to grow with you to allow you to add both home security and automation services that fit your budget, which makes them very likable. No smart home security service is perfect, but AT&T Digital Life tries harder than the others.

Why we think you should give your cable company a second look.

We know that cable companies aren’t the most popular girls at the dance. But adding some home security may make them look a bit better. When it comes to home security cable companies have some distinct advantages.

1

You can get everything on one bill

If you want a professional monitoring service getting one from your cable provider is a good idea. Not only will you get decent service, you can also get everything on one invoice. This will save you time, and depending on your carrier, it might save you money too.

2

You already have their Wi-Fi

Most of us get our cable and internet from one provider. Which means you can easily increase your speed to accommodate their home security devices.

3

They will answer when you call

You know they can staff their monitoring service. Which means when you call, or your equipment calls someone will be there. Smaller providers may struggle in the beginning, but your cable company has the ability to staff their monitoring center.

4

Most providers have equipment warranties

While we love AT&T Digital Life for their lifetime warranty, most companies of their size will have decent warranties on the devices and equipment they send.

5

You don’t have to buy equipment

This may not be true with every company, but most cable providers don’t make you front the money for the equipment. Which makes it easier to build a robust home security system.

Forward Home Security Review 2017

Forward Home Security is based in Dallas, Texas and serves The Dallas–Fort Worth–Arlington, TX Metropolitan Statistical Area. The company also provides services in the cities of Austin, Houston, and San Antonio. In 2012, it was ranked as one of the 500 fastest growing private companies in the United States.

The Good

Forward Home Security uses security equipment supplied by Digital Security Controls (DSC). DSC has been in business since 1979 and has an excellent reputation for hi-tech quality hardware.

Apart from this, Forward Home Security offers free activation and installation for all new customers. This is attractive for first-time customers who can usually be charged nearly $100 for such a service.

They offer a wide range of security and monitoring equipment to choose from, many of which can work with a customer’s existing hardware, leading to further cost savings. The company is also known for great customer service with many online reviews praising their quick response times and dedication to resolving customer issues as soon as possible.

The Bad

Despite a free activation and installation service, the company has a minimum 36-month contract obligation on all plans. This is in line with the industry average but there are many new competitors in the market who are offering 12-month contracts and even no contract obligations at all.

Furthermore, an early cancellation will mean a customer has to pay 100% fees for the remaining period, which can turn out to be quite costly. Another concern is that the company does not properly set out all of their terms and conditions for their contracts.

No detailed information is available on equipment warranties or transfer fees and with a 36-month contractual obligation, such ambiguity only makes it harder for first-time customers to choose Forward Home Security.

Bottom Line

Forward Home Security is one of the fastest growing companies in America and has a developed reputation as a provider of quality security services in Texas. However, it is not suited for individuals looking for cost-effective solutions, since the company’s 36-month contracts can become quite expensive.

Monitoring Plans and Pricing

Forward Home Security offers five different plans to choose from:

Existing System Package – $17.95/month: The lowest-priced plan offered by the company which can work with a customer’s existing equipment.

New System Package – $27.95/month: The basic plan offered to customers who require a completely new alarm security system.

Smart + Phone Package – $45.95/month: A security system that comes with a smart touchscreen control panel.

Smart + Home Energy Package – $54.95/month: One of the more expensive packages offered by the company which comes with an energy management system.

Smart + Home Plus Package – $64.95/month: The complete home security package which combines energy management, touch screen control, and video surveillance.

Features

All plans come with varying features:

  • 1 wireless motion detector
  • 3 wireless door and window contacts

  • Self-contained GSM cell
  • 24/7 UL-licensed monitoring for Police, Medical and Fire emergencies

Smart + Home Plus Package:

  • Free Activation
  • Free Lifetime Warranty
  • 1 Indoor camera

  • 1 wireless motion detector
  • 3 wireless door and window contacts
  • 1 Yard Sign with 3 stickers
  • Self-contained GSM cell
  • 24/7 UL-licensed monitoring for Police, Medical and Fire emergencies.

Equipment Options

All home automation and security equipment provided by the company is supplied by Digital Security Controls Ltd. Some services are provided in partnership with the local Smith monitoring company.

Customer Support

Customer support is available through an 888 phone number but the company’s website does not provide any email id or even an office address to reach the company. Furthermore, the website lacks a live chat support service and does not provide links to the company’s social media pages, which otherwise might have been helpful.

Contract Details

The company provides free installation and activation on most of their plans. They have a 36-month minimum contractual obligation for all new customers. Early cancellation is possible but can be extremely expensive since a customer will need to pay the full amount of the remaining contract. Further details on cancellation policy or warranties are not provided on their website.

Review Summary

For customers living in the State of Texas, Forward Home Security can provide quality products, reliable monitoring and some of the most advanced security equipment on the market. However, it is not the cheapest vendor in the market with a 36-month contract obligation and plans that can cost up to $64/month.

If price is a key factor in your decision making, then you will be better off looking elsewhere, but if the quality is of prime importance, then Forward Home Security might be a good choice.

Charleston Security Services Review 2017

Charleston Security Services is head quartered in the city of Charleston, South Carolina. The founder and CEO of the company, Mr. Dean Rommes has over 15 years of experience in the security industry and started his own business in 2011 to provide quality security products for homes, restaurants, warehouses, and hotels. Today, the company provides security services in 11 cities in the State of South Carolina and is a member of the local Small Business Chamber.

The Good

Charleston Security Services does not provide any yearly contractual obligations and customers can renew their subscriptions on a month to month basis. This is rare in the industry and certainly an advantage for new customers. The company has also received an A rating from the Better Business Bureau (BBB) signifying the quality of services and customer support offered.

They provide a wide variety of equipment to choose from and their wireless services are powered by Alarm.com, which is one of the most well-renowned suppliers of remotely accessible security systems. Also, due to the company’s large network in the State of South Carolina, they are able to quickly respond to customer problems and are known for quickly resolving issues.

The Bad

While the company does have a large network in South Carolina, it does not provide regular services to a number of cities in the State. The company claims to be able to reach each and every city in South Carolina, but there is no substantiated evidence of the kind of services and support they can provide in these areas.

Furthermore, their website lacks important information such as details on monitoring plans and terms and conditions of using their services. To go around this, a new customer would need to arrange for the company’s technician to come over and provide recommendations on the kind of plan they should buy. This is a free service but would seem like an unnecessary hassle to most new customers.

The company also does not provide any online live chat support, something which is increasingly becoming common among many service based organizations.

Bottom Line

Charleston Security Systems is a good choice for people living in South Carolina. They have a no contract obligation and provide a variety of products and plans to choose from. However, no detailed information is provided on their terms and conditions and even the plans they offer and it is recommended to check with the company and get as much information as possible before signing up.

Monitoring Plans and Pricing

CSS- iShield Mobile – $39.95: A basic mobile monitoring system

CSS- iShield Mobile Plus- $49.95: Includes basic remote accessibility

CSS- iShield Mobile Pro- $54.95: Includes advanced remote accessibility

  • Protection from identity theft
  • Video Monitoring

Equipment Options

The company’s monitoring services are powered by Alarm.com. They are also an authorized dealer for Control 4, which supplies all of their home automation products. Some equipment is provided by Charleston Audio & Visual Systems.

Customer Support

The company has great reviews for customer service which is available via email and phone 24/7. However, their website lacks the popular live chat support service which many new customers usually find extremely helpful.

Contract Details

The company does not have any contractual obligation for equipment purchased through them. Customers can pay on a monthly basis and cancel their subscription anytime. However, there are some ambiguities on the monitoring plans which are powered by Alarm.com, and no details are provided on their website regarding this.

Review Summary

Charleston Security Services has an excellent reputation in the state of South Carolina. Their products are not the cheapest in the market but their focus on the local area has helped them provide great customer support.

Nevertheless, it is recommended that anyone trying their services for the first time, should get more information on their monitoring plans and contracts. The website does not mention any terms and conditions and no details are provided on cancellation charges or transfer fees.

The Bad

While having a huge customer base, the company covers a very limited area in just two US States. That is less than 5% of the US geographic area and seriously limits the reach of the company. They also charge upfront fees on most of their security plans which simply increases the cost for a new customer and can drive them towards a lower-priced competitor.

The website provides no information on equipment warranties and the company does not clearly state their terms and conditions for service cancellation or transfer fees. Customers might need to pay for an early termination but the exact figure is not mentioned. This is troublesome since they have a standard 36-month contract obligation on all packages they offer.

This contract length is also a problem because despite being common in the industry many new players are offering 24-month, 12-month and even no contract obligations at all, just to attract new customers.

Bottom Line

With almost a century of history and customizable plans, Doyle Security Systems is an excellent choice for people living in New York and Pennsylvania. However, a 36-month contract obligation coupled with undisclosed information on transfer and cancellation fees might put off a lot of customers

Alarm Monitoring Services Review 2017

Alarm Monitoring Services is a Kirkland, Washington based company providing security monitoring services since 1991. As the name implies, they focus on providing monitoring services for customers who already have security equipment installed at their properties.

The Good

Alarm Monitoring Services is a well-established company that has been providing services for 26 years. Throughout this period, the company has consistently updated their offerings to supply the latest products. Today, customers have a choice between choosing landline, broadband, and even cellular monitoring services.

For customers who are not sure on which service to choose, they offer free consultation and recommendations. All monitoring is provided by Intertek and Factory Alarm Monitoring Services. The monitoring stations comply with UnderWriters Laboratories and are certified by Central Station Services.

The company provides a guaranteed response time of 30 seconds in times of burglary, hold-up or fire emergencies. If a delay of more than 30 seconds is recorded, they will give away 6-months of free service to a customer. Furthermore, Alarm Monitoring Services offers a 90-day money-back guarantee. This is rare in the industry and makes it an attractive option for first-time customers.

The Bad

Unlike other security companies, Alarm Monitoring Services provides a very limited number of products to choose from, instead focusing primarily on monitoring services.

While they do offer a few DIY alarm systems, the company does not provide any home automation or surveillance equipment. It is also not a reseller for any major security equipment provider. This seriously limits the company’s appeal to only those customers who already have a security system installed and simply need to purchase monitoring services.

Furthermore, the alarm systems provided by the company are low-cost and very basic starter kits. Hence, if a customer wants to add-on more equipment, they would need to buy it from another vendor.

Bottom Line

Alarm Monitoring Services is an excellent company for individuals who need a low-cost and a highly reliable monitoring service. However, it is only suitable for customers who already have professional equipment installed, since the company does not provide a lot of options for quality hardware.

Monitoring Plans and Pricing

The company provides a number of monitoring plans and packages to choose from:

Monitoring by Phone – $5.59/month: This plan uses an existing local land line.If an alarm is triggered, the system automatically makes a call to the monitoring center through a toll-free number.

Monitoring by VoIP – $5.59/month: This requires an existing VOIP service through a customer’s high-speed internet connection. If an alarm is triggered, the system makes a call to the monitoring center through a toll-free number.

Monitoring by Wi-Fi Broadband – $10.95/month: This package uses the company’s patented Wi-Fi Broadband Internet Adapter.

Monitoring by GSM/Cellular – $15.95/month: The plan requires the use of a Cellular or GSM transmitter. If an alarm is triggered, the system will make a call to the monitoring center using back data channels from numerous cellular networks, ensuring the fastest and most secure way to report an alarm.

Monitoring by Mini GSM – $15.95/month: Similar to the GSM/Cellular plan but comes with a patent pending device called the Dicell Mini, named due to the small size of the equipment.

UL Fire Monitoring – $20.95/month: This plan is for customers looking for extra protection on top of their existing plan. The package adds a Fire Monitoring and Alarm system which works with the company’s installed equipment to alert nearest monitoring centers in times of crisis.

Email Monitoring – $5.95/month: This is a simple system that uses an encrypted email address to send a signal to monitoring centers and any automation equipment. It is designed to work with any alarm system that can send an email and can even be voice-activated using Amazon ECHO or Google Home.

AlarmEar Monitoring – $5.95/month: The AlarmEar is a patented technology that is used to detect sirens and bells. It works with all kinds of alarm systems that send out a siren or a bell when triggered. The AlarmEar automatically sends a signal to one of the company’s monitoring centers in case of an alert. The AlarmEar is compatible with all latest equipment as well as older hardware.

FireEar Monitoring – $5.95/month: FireEar is a patented device that works wirelessly with any standalone or daisy chained carbon dioxide and fire detector. FireEar is linked to the company’s monitoring center and can send a signal in less than 10 seconds. It can work without the need for a complete fire system or even a panel and can be powered from an AC or battery source.

E-Notify Services – $5.95/month: E-Notify services can be added to all the above packages. It sends out a text message and/or an email alert in real-time, allowing a customer to respond immediately.

Features

Alarm Monitoring Services provides a number of features to its customers including:

  • 24/7 Monitoring
  • Certified Monitoring centers
  • Response times of less than 30 seconds
  • Free basic phone support
  • Patented and patent pending monitoring equipment

Equipment Options

The company’s monitoring services are provided by Intertek and Factory Alarm Monitoring Services. They also sell DIY alarm system kits by SkyLinkPlus.

Customer Support

Customer Support is available via a phone number and email. Basic support is only available during office timings throughout the weekday, while support on the central monitoring station is available 24/7 through their phone number and email.

Contract Details

The company provides a 90-day money-back guarantee, a no-contract obligation with a month to month agreement and same-day installations for all customers. A complete list of their terms and conditions is available on their website.

Review Summary

Alarm Monitoring Services is a well-established provider of monitoring services. For customers who already have security equipment installed in their properties, the company offers quality monitoring services at an affordable cost. They provide a variety of packages to choose from including email notification and fire monitoring, all of which are priced well below the industry average. However, customers looking for a turn-key solution with procurement, installation of equipment and monitoring would be disappointed by the limited hardware and DIY equipment.

Blue Light Security Inc. Review 2017

Blue Light Security Inc. is an authorized ADT dealer operating since the last 11 years. The company is based in Sherman Oaks, California and provides standard ADT equipment and monitoring services for homes and businesses.

The Good

As an authorized ADT dealer, customers can expect high-quality products and 24/7 monitoring facilities. The higher management has over 30 years of combined experience and the owner, Mr. Roland Gabor, is an industry veteran. Blue Light Security is priced lower than the industry average, which is an attraction for first-time customers. On top of the lower fees, they offer free property appraisals and recommend a system that suits the needs of each customer.

The company is also TRUSTe certified which means that their technology complies with government laws and is operated using best practices.Furthermore, they give special deals on services purchased over the Internet and discounts are offered to residents of Riverside, Los Angeles, Sacramento and San Diego.

Also, customers of Blue Light Security Inc. retain 100% ownership of the equipment regardless of the package they purchase.

The Bad

While they provide special discounts and are priced below the industry average, the company requires a minimum 24-month contract obligation. This is in line with industry standards but might put-off some new customers who are usually skeptical of trying a different service provider. There are many competitors in the market who offer 12-month contracts or even less in order to entice new customers.

Also, the company claims to be present in ‘several States’ but only provides contact information for cities in California. This is a confusion but it’s safe to assume that Blue Light Security only operates within the Southern California region.

There are also several other issues as noted by BBB (better business bureau). For example, customers have complained about misleading advertising, product warranty issues, and unhelpful customer support staff.

Bottom Line

Overall, the company’s association with ADT ensures that all customers would be able to benefit from excellent products and monitoring services. However, it’s limited reach and a poor marketing team means that the company will only be able to serve customers in a small geographic area.

Monitoring Plans and Pricing

All packages come with a $99 fixed installation fee:

Special Limited Time Rate – ADT® Essential Monitoring – $27.99/month: The ADT Essential Monitoring service comes without warranty and maintenance. This is also a limited-time low price offer for select customers only. The package requires a traditional landline telephone service to work.

Basic Package Plus – ADT® Fire Protection Package – $36.99/month: The basic package plus is slightly more expensive than the basic monitoring package but provides the added benefit of a fire protection system.

Customer Support

Customer support is provided through phone and email. However, Blue Light Security Inc. has a poor history of customer service. Their Facebook page is littered with complaints of how the company has provided inadequate support, including incomplete system installations and various other issues that have been left unresolved for days.

Contract Details

The company has a minimum 24-month contract obligation on all their plans, on top of a $99 fixed installation cost. No other details have been provided on cancellation fees or charges that might be incurred in moving the system to a different property.

Review Summary

As an ADT dealer based in Southern California, Blue Light Security Inc. might be a good choice for customers in the area looking for discounts and good rates. However, the company suffers from poor services and they need to do a lot of work in order to improve their customer support.
Customers who are looking for no-contract obligations or living outside of the Southern California region will easily be able to find competitor companies offering better services.

Cannon Security Inc. Review 2017

Cannon Security Inc. is a Canadian company based in Saint John, New Brunswick.  They have been in business since 2004 and are known for selling a wide variety of high-end security and home automation products. They are also an official partner of the Alarm.com mobile app and are an ADT affiliate.

The Good

Cannon Security Inc. provides customized security and automation solutions for each customer. Every individual customer is able to benefit from an especially designed plan which is developed after a complete survey of the property and the customer’s requirements.

By utilizing the technology offered by Alarm.com, the company is able to provide one of the most intuitive and powerful security mobile applications available anywhere. The app is provided free of cost and can let a user control and monitor each and every aspect of their security system. Cannon Security equipment can work on a user’s cellular network bypassing the need for a telephone line or a wired internet connection.

The company is also known for excellent service and highly trained technicians who go out of their way to resolve issues as soon as possible. Cannon Security Inc. sources products from some the world’s best security and automation equipment providers. They rely on more than one company, helping them to expand their product offerings of high-quality hardware.

Another advantage of the company is its innovative ‘Crash and Smash’ technology which automatically sends out an emergency alarm to local authorities if the system is tampered with or shut down.

The Bad

Cannon Security Inc. has a very limited coverage area, with all their customers in the province of New Brunswick. Hence, people living in the United States or even in other provinces of Canada would not be able to use their services. Also, the company charges a flat $49.95 fee upfront on all contracts and installations. While this figure in itself is not very high, there are other players in the market who charge less or even no upfront fees at all.

As a provider of customized solutions, they do not have any rate list or payment plans to choose from. This makes it extremely difficult for new customers to understand the kind of investment they would need to make. Similarly, there is very little information provided on Cannon Security’s website regarding uninstallation or moving fees which a customer might have to incur in certain situations.

Furthermore, the company is not accredited by the Better Business Bureau which sheds some doubt on their overall performance as a business.

Bottom Line

Cannon Security Inc. is a good choice for customers living in the province of New Brunswick, Canada. The company provides top-of-the line equipment and mobile app technology which can work without a phone line and is completely wireless.

Monitoring Plans and Pricing

Cannon Security Inc. charges $49.95 as an upfront cost of installation. Apart from that, the company provides customized solutions for homes and businesses. Image Sensor:

  • High-Quality Nigh-Vision mode to capture low-light shots
  • Image sensors are completely wireless and work on batteries

  • Manage visitor access remotely by creating and managing multiple user access codes from a computer
  • Track each room and building to gather business intelligence on footfall
  • Schedule security systems

Equipment Options

Cannon Security Inc. mostly provides ADT equipment, which is one of the most popular security equipment providers in North America. Keyless door systems are provided by Weiser & Kwikset, while Garage door technology is provided by LiftMaster. All equipment is compatible with Alarm.com mobile app

Customer Support

Customer Support is available through phone and email. As a local provider limited to a small area, they are known for their excellent service and quick turn around times whenever customers face issues or problems.

Contract Details

Unlike most security companies, Cannon Security Inc. does not provide ready-made contracts or price lists for different packages. Price rates and contracts are only confirmed once a property is surveyed and a customized security system is designed to meet the needs of the specific client.

Many first time customers have claimed to receive a minimum 36-month contract obligation while some customers have claimed to negotiate a package without any contractual obligations at all. It would be best to get in touch with the company and understand what you are eligible for.

Review Summary

Cannon Security Inc. has exceptional customer service and they make sure to satisfy the needs of each and every customer. The company has quality security equipment and with the help of Alarm.com mobile app, they have been able to give each customer the power to manage their system remotely from any mobile device.Their upfront fees are not the highest and some people might be willing to pay it considering the company’s excellent track record.

However, they have a very limited coverage area, operating only in the Province of New Brunswick, Canada. With their customized solutions and friendly staff, Cannon Security Inc. can only be an excellent choice for people living in the vicinity.

Nationwide Security Review 2017

Nationwide Security is an ADT authorized dealer based in Aurora, Colorado. The company has a large local presence serving over 1,000 businesses and 6,000 residential customers in the Denver metropolitan area.

The Good

Nationwide Security is led by a president and an operations manager who have a combined experience of more than 50 years in the security industry. Their experience and professionalism have resulted in the company receiving an ‘A’ rating from the better business bureau. The company has a wide variety of ADT equipment to choose from and discounts are offered to the AARP, AAA and US military. Apart from protection against theft and burglary, they provide specialized equipment for fire, medical and flood emergencies. Customers are eligible for an ADT money-back guarantee if they apply for a refund within 6 months of using the service. Furthermore, a 90-day manufacturer’s warranty is offered on all 36-month contracts. The company also provides a theft protection guarantee paying up to $500 of the customer’s insurance deductible, if their property is robbed.

The Bad

According to publicly available information, there is confusion on the exact locations served by the company. While the website mentions phone numbers for Ohio and Indiana, all other details point to the fact that the company only works in Colorado. Nevertheless, it is apparent that the company has a very limited coverage area. They also offer a minimum 36-month contract obligation for most of their plans. This, while not uncommon, is matched by other companies who offer more competitive contracts of 24 months or less. Another downside is the fact that Nationwide Security is not CSAA Five Diamond certified, a highly respected program guaranteeing excellence in monitoring.

Bottom Line

Nationwide Security provides quality equipment from a respected manufacturer and customers can expect reliable services. However, due to its limited coverage, the company is only recommended for Colorado residents who might be able to benefit from selected discounts.

Monitoring Plans and Pricing

The company provides a couple of packages to choose. The Home Security packages are priced at:

Home Security Option 1: $27.99/month and a one-time $99 installation fee

Home Security Option 2: $33.99/month and a one-time $99 installation fee

Home Security Option 3: $36.99/month and a one-time $99 installation fee

Home Security Option 4: $42.99/month and a one-time $99 installation fee

Home Security Option 5: $47.99/month and a one-time $99 installation fee

Home Security Option 6: $51.99/month and a one-time $199 installation fee

Home Security Option 7: $59.99/moth and a one-time $499 installation fee

The differences in installation costs and monthly fees are down to the varying equipment and level of features provided in each option. Further monitoring plans include:

Home Health Security Services: $34.99/month and a one-time $99 installation fee. This is a specialized package with limited health features, ideal for people with long-term disabilities or senior citizens who want some peace of mind.

Equipment Options

Customer Support

Customer Support is available through phone and email throughout the weekday. ADT provides further support 24/7 via phone and email as well. There are no live chat options on the website but the overall support and services provided to customers have been ranked favorably.

Contract Details

Nationwide Security provides a 36-month minimum contract obligation which is typical for the industry. However, their Home Health package, aimed at senior citizens comes with just a one-year contract agreement.Customers who are not satisfied with the services of the company can receive a refund on the monitoring fees or installation charges within the first 6 months. After this, if a customer wishes to cancel the subscription they would need to pay 75% of their outstanding account balance.

Review Summary

As an authorized dealer of ADT products, Nationwide Security will provide quality hardware and reliable service. They also have discounts and lenient contract agreements in some cases. Otherwise, the company does not offer any competitive packages or equipment compared to other players in the market. Also, its limited reach means that the company is only suitable for customers in the Denver Metropolitan area. For local families and businesses looking for an experienced team and proven security products, Nationwide Security might be an excellent choice.

Premier Security Corporation Review 2017

Premier Security Corp. was founded in 2004 and is headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. It is an insured and licensed security company which provides specialized services in the Chicago metropolitan area. The company differentiates by providing automated and customized security solutions and is led by a team with a combined experience of over a hundred years.

The Good

Premier Security Corp. focuses on providing bespoke solutions for each customer, which is rare in the industry. This provides every client with a wide variety of equipment and features to choose from and build a security system that works best for them. Every solution is geared towards maximum automation which reduces human error, improves efficiency and decreases unnecessary overheads. These cost cuts are passed on to the customer which makes the company, one of the most affordable customized security providers in the Chicago area.

The company also has it’s own training institute where employees are taught on maintaining industry standards and professional security management. Premier Security Corp. is also a supporter of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and have helped to raise awareness about child protection by sponsoring Chicago’s first 5K Run/Walk

The Bad

As a specialized provider, Premier Security Corp. is one of the more expensive security companies out there. Numerous competitors provide very cost-effective generic equipment and standard packages while  Premier Security Corp. focuses on the high-end customized market. Hence, the company might not be suitable for the average household looking for a simple and quick solution. The company also has very limited coverage and does not provide services outside the Chicago metropolitan area

The Bottom Line

Premier Security Corp. is an excellent choice for someone looking for an experienced security company. There are no one-size-fits-all, and they can work with each client individually, suggesting and building a customized solution. However, such services come at a premium price tag and if a customer is looking for low-priced standard security solutions then they might have to look elsewhere.

Monitoring Plans and Pricing

There are no standard rates for their services. All quotations need to be requested by the company which will be based on the individual needs of the customer. Overall, Premier Security Corp. provides six different kinds of monitoring solutions:

Commercial Security: The company provides personalized solutions for commercial and corporate clients who require 24/7 security monitoring of their buildings as well as employees. Such clients are provided with a plan which provides surveillance of the whole office, as well as key viewing areas around the building and important entry and exit points. Loss prevention, perimeter control, and emergency responses are usually built into the plan for maximum security and deterrence.

Educational Security: Premier Security Corp. also specializes in providing solutions for educational facilities. These security plans take into account the protection of open spaces as well as maintaining a free learning environment inside classrooms. Stationary access controls, armed and unarmed personnel, patrolling, student escorting and emergency protocols can be developed in conjunction with school administrators to protect students, faculty members, and staff.

Special Events: Special events such as corporate meetings, social gatherings, conferences, and exhibitions require security solutions for a couple of hours or days. Premier Security Corp. Is able to design security solutions for such events and provide trained professionals who are experienced in situation assessment, crowd control, emergency evacuation procedures and interception techniques.

Healthcare Security: Hospitals and clinics are provided with customized security plans which are developed after working closely with administrators. Premier Security Corp. follows guidelines established by The Joint Commission (TJC) and the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) to protect expensive equipment against theft and provide security to patients, visitors and staff.

Shopping Centers Security: Premier Security Corp. is able to design and develop a complete security plan for malls. Since all shopping centers are different in size, parking space, entry points etc. they require a customized solution that can provide maximum security against robbery, theft, illegal arms, carjacking, and even kidnappings. The company works with the management, supervisors and the architect to build a security plan based on a great shopping experience, high visibility, and deterrence.

Residential Security: The company is able to provide 24/7 security monitoring for households and homeowner associations. Plans can be developed for a single home or a group of houses and are only finalized after thorough discussions with all stakeholders involved.

Contract Details

As a bespoke provider of security solutions, each customer is different and contracts are developed depending on the location and size of each order. For example, some customers might require security services for only a couple of days while others require them for months, hence, each contract is developed accordingly.

Review Summary

Premier Security Corp. has an experienced management team and an excellent customer service. They are well suited for larger clients who are looking for tailored solutions and are willing to pay above the market price for better security. However, for the average household, premier security corp. might be an expensive choice and their plans can cost hundreds of dollars more than an ordinary off-the-shelf DIY solution.
